Knowledge / Canon

What governs Enterprise Reality?

Canon is the body of governing knowledge that establishes the meaning, language and constitutional boundaries Enterprise Reality must preserve as its architecture and implementation evolve.

Why Canon exists

Meaning must remain stable as implementation changes

Software, architecture diagrams, tests, releases and website pages can implement or describe Enterprise Reality. They do not become Canon merely by doing so. Canon keeps the distinction visible between the authority that governs and the work that follows from it.

Canon establishes the meaning and boundaries that implementation must preserve.

The governing body of knowledge

Different responsibilities, held together

Canon is not a file catalogue. It helps distinguish the kinds of authority needed to govern Enterprise Reality, while keeping their responsibilities separate.

  1. 01

    Purpose

Why Enterprise Reality exists, and the enterprise question it is intended to help people answer.

  2. 02

    Constitution

The principles and constraints that implementation cannot casually override.

  3. 03

    Language

The controlled meanings through which identities, evidence, representations and decisions can be interpreted consistently.

  4. 04

    Platform boundaries

The responsibilities and separations that govern an executable Platform without allowing it to redefine the meaning it serves.

  5. 05

    Product authority

Product-specific constitutions and language, where established, remain distinct from the Enterprise Reality and Platform Canon.

How authority is carried forward

Governing meaning is not implementation

This is a responsibility sequence, not a claim that every publication derives from one linear document hierarchy. It shows how governing meaning must remain present as work becomes more concrete.

  1. Governing meaning
  2. Architecture and specification
  3. Engineering
  4. Programme governance
  5. Release certification

How to read Canon

Publication alone is not enough

A publication belongs in Canon because legitimate programme authority establishes its canonical standing, not because the website links to it. For public presentation, canonical standing and public eligibility must both be established.

This page therefore identifies no individual governing publication until its current standing, public eligibility and authorised public destination can be established together. It does not treat internal availability, historical visibility or an implementation reference as public Canon.

Boundaries

Architecture substantiates; engineering conforms

Architecture explains how Enterprise Reality is structured and bounded. It remains subordinate to applicable constitutional authority. Engineering works within that authority; programme governance and release certification determine a different question: whether an increment has crossed its required lifecycle.

Implemented is not the same as released.

Canon establishes what must be preserved. Architecture is the next verification domain for how that governing meaning becomes bounded responsibility.
